"For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation,
fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption,
but he whom God raised up did not see corruption. Let it be known to you therefore, brothers,
that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,
and by him everyone who believes is freedom from everything
from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses."
Acts 13:36-39
On his first missionary journey, Paul, accompanied by Barnabas, was preaching in the synagogue. He was preaching the gospel of Jesus from the Old Testament up through the witness of John the Baptist. Paul concluded a strong apology on Jesus as the Messiah, and His resurrection – all taught from scripture. Then comes a great proclamation of the Good News – “through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you and by him everyone who believes is freed.”  At the conclusion of the meeting, the people begged Paul to return with the same message on the next Sabbath. He and Barnabas returned and this time the whole city was there to listen. Those who heard the first sermon were enthusiastic to tell and invite their friends and neighbors. At that meeting, the Jews, filled with jealousy began to revile Paul. This is when Paul and Barnabas announced, “It was necessary for the word of God to be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold we are turning to the Gentiles. For so the Lord
has commanded us saying, ’I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”  Upon hearing this, the Gentiles were overcome with joy that the gospel was for them as well. Who would not want to know this forgiveness of sins and freedom in Jesus Christ? In the preceding story is a beautiful picture of our own call to evangelize. Paul and Barnabas are sent by the church in Antioch. We see our responsibility to send missionaries. Their method is the faithful preaching of the Bible. No different for us. There is, after joyfully receiving the gospel, telling, or inviting others. There is the joy of the Gospel - forgiveness of sins. The sovereignty of God – v.48 “as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.”  This is where we draw our motivation and confidence. Those new believers were sharing their faith – v.49 “the word of the Lord was spreading through that whole region.”  The 2022 Missions Conference will remind us of all the things in this great passage and encourage and motivate us to persevere in the Gospel.

2022 Special Offering Project

Church Construction Projects:
Quiritimayo Sunday School Room & Chulucanas Wall

IPC has enjoyed a long partnership with PeruMission and Alonzo Ramirez. We have supported Alonzo since the beginning of the PeruMission church planting ministry. Alonzo is a great visionary for church planting in Peru and especially the “hinterlands,” or rural mountain areas. He has also tirelessly translated reformed literature into Spanish, including most recently Dr. Johnson’s  Leading In Worship  and Westminster Confession of Faith for Study Classes. Alonzo has asked if we can help with construction projects at two rural churches with which he and his wife, Esther, are involved. These are churches in Chulucanas and Quiritimayo. Here are Alonzo’s descriptions of the two projects: “In the building of our Quiritimayo church we have dedicated a large room
for kids Sunday School on the second floor. For the last four years our kids are having their classes in a rough cement room. We would need to lay tiles and make the room more comfortable for the kid´s teachers (Esther Ramirez and Gisela Mendoza), and for the kids themselves.” And “We still need to finish the last thirty longitudinal meters of an all-around protection wall for the church land of Chulucanas which we begun this year. Our church has already purchased some gravel, bricks, and sand. However, we still need to dig the foundation, and erect the walls with columns, rebars and f ill it in with cement and bricks. With that finished we would set up a consistent entrance gate.” We can fund both projects for $15,000.
Please give generously to this year’s Missions Conference Special Offering that we might meet this goal. Thank you.
