2022 Winter Sunday School Quarter

Garmer Sunday School

Teacher: John Breckenridge  Age: 70's+  Room: Garmer Room (Axson, 3rd Floor)
Subject: "Francis Schaeffer and the 21st Century Christian"
Much of what Francis Schaeffer argued was afflicting humanity in the late 20th century has now come true in its entirety. Arguably the most influential Christian philosopher of the 20th century, his writings and perspectives are especially relevant today. Though much has been lost as the world has fallen further into the grip of relativism and godless humanism since his death in 1984, the Lord can use us to rebuild again. Be encouraged as we review excerpts from: The God Who is There, Escape from Reason and He Is There and He Is Not Silent, and see how our Christian faith is grounded in truth and how the Gospel is the only answer for what ails humanity.

Agape Sunday School

Teacher: Terry Johnson  Age: Late 50's to 60's  Room: Agape Room (Axson, 3rd Floor)
Subject: "The Piety of the Psalms III"
We will look at the way in which the Psalms function to shape the spiritual outlook, the "piety", to use the older word, of Christians.

Emmaus Sunday School

Teacher: Bruce Willson  Age: 40's and 50's  Room: Emmaus Room (Admin Bldg., 2nd Floor)
Subject: "2 Timothy"
Martin Luther declared in one of his Ninety-Five Theses, “The church’s true treasure is the gospel of Jesus Christ.” The gospel is the deposit of that treasure entrusted to the apostles.  The Apostle Paul, in his final letter, 2 Timothy, in turn, entrusts this treasure to his beloved protégé, Timothy. Come and join us as we journey through this precious message and find applications for the church and for ourselves.

Berean Sunday School

Teacher: Matthew Burt  Age: 30's and 40's Room: Berean Room (Axson, 3rd Floor)
Subject: "Church of the Middle Ages"
Many Evangelicals tend to think of the era of Church history between the death of Augustine of Hippo in A.D. 430 and Martin Luther's theological discoveries in the early 1500s as a dark void. On the contrary, these "Middle Ages" set the stage for the world as we know it: intellectually, theologically, and politically. We will study philosophy and spirituality of the several thinkers and theologians that set the stage for the Reformation--and our own spirituality today.

New Covenant Sunday School

Teacher: Tim Shaw  Age: mid-20's to 30's  Room: Whitaker Bldg., 4th Floor
  Subject: "1 Samuel"
Israel is a mess following the time of the Judges. But there is hope with the rise of King Saul! But we know the story-- what can we learn from his rise and fall, and from the rise of the king after God's own heart, David!? Come discuss with us as we come to the second half of 1 Samuel.

College Sunday School

Teacher: Oli Simmons  Age: Undergraduate  Room: Admin Bldg., 2nd Floor Room 72
Subject: "Elect Exiles: How 1 Peter Speaks to College Students Today"
College brings newfound freedoms and responsibilities. But along with that comes a feeling of strangeness: people out there don't believe or act the same way you do! Peter has lots to say to Christians who feel this tension - those who know the love of God yet fight upstream against the currents of the culture. Come and uncover how God's Word applies to you as an "elect exile" at college.
