Winter Sunday School Quarter 2025-2026

Winter Quarter Sunday School Classes begin Sunday, December 7, 2025

Garmer
Teacher: Dr. B. Wilson  Age: 70s+  Room:  1st Floor - Whitaker  Subject: "Pneumatology"
Pneumatology, the study of the person and work of the Holy Spirit, is the subject of our study this Quarter. Many denominations of the church have neglected this study with alarming results. In some circles, the Spirit is simply ignored. In others, they only focus on the more spectacular gifts such as healing, prophecy, and tongues. Some emphasize the immediate works of the Spirit in our souls, forgetting He is always at work in the creation. Come and join us as we see how the Scripture describes the Spirit as a person, fully divine, fully equal with the other members of the Trinity. He brings the Father’s plan and the Son’s mediation to completion. He indwells His people and conforms them into the image of the Son. Come, learn and be struck with the glory and majesty of the Third Person of the Trinity!

Agape
Teacher: Dr. D. Gobel  Age: 60s Room:  2nd Floor - Whitaker
Subject: "The Garden in Scripture"
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible abounds in garden imagery. The story of our creation, fall, and redemption, in fact, begins in a garden and ends in a garden city. As we read God’s word in books of history, poetry, wisdom literature, and prophecy, we repeatedly encounter horticultural and pastoral themes and settings, including vineyards, pastures, trees, streams, pastures, and fountains. This class explores what such imagery teaches us about our triune God and our place in his created order.

Emmaus
Teacher: Mr. J. Breckenridge  Age: 50s  Room: 3rd Floor - Whitaker
Subject: "The Gospel of John"
Join us as we survey and discuss key passages in the Book of John that describe who Jesus is, and what he accomplished in his life, death and resurrection.

Berean
Teacher: Rev. T. Shaw  Age: 40s  Room: 4th Floor - Whitaker Subject: "Study of 1 Samuel, the Rise of David and Fall of Saul"
What are we to learn from the examples of David, Jonathan, and Saul? What are their stories recorded for? What are we meant to glean?

New Covenant
Teacher: Mr J. Sutton  Age: 30s  Room: #30 - 3rd Floor Axson  Subject: "Study of the Character of the Risen Christ"
Ask yourself: "Is the Risen Christ’s compassion and pity the same as it was on earth?” “Is he still as meek, as gentle, as willing to help, as tender in his affections as he was on earth?” "How does his lowliness cohere with his transcendence?" This class will ask these questions and more as we walk through Puritan, Thomas Goodwin’s writings and Dane Ortlund’s book, Gentle and Lowly.

Jerusalem
Teacher: Rev. Dr. Burt  Age: 20s  Room: #31 - 3rd Floor Axson Subject: "Running Like a Hall of Famer"
After his catalogue of the inductees of “Faith’s Hall of Fame,” the pastor/author of Hebrews encourages his readers to “run with endurance the race that is set before us.” He then follows this exhortation with several truths that will help us to finish the race successfully. This class will work through Hebrews twelve preparing us to run with joy, encouraging us to persevere in our running, and giving us a clear picture of the great reward awaiting us as we cross the finish line.

College
Teacher: Mr. A. Becham  Age: Undergraduate  Room: Parlor - Hull Street Building
Subject: "Ephesians"
The Book of Ephesians examines both chambers of the heart of the church: sound doctrine and its vital flow into faithful living. Without the first, Christian works are baseless; without the second, the Christian profession is thin. So join us to learn from Paul’s short, sweeping study of the good life in the hands of the living God.

Youth- High School
Teacher:  Rev. A. Sutherland  Age: High School  Room: 2nd Floor, Hull Street Building
Subject: "Lessons from the Reformation"
One of the implications that we learn from the fifth commandment for our Christian lives is that we are obligated to learn about and from our forefathers in the faith. This includes all of the history of God’s people, but especially as Protestant Christians it is essential for us to know who these Reformers were and why their convictions still matter for us today. This is even more important as other traditions such as Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy have become more appealing to young people today. This quarter we will seek to study the most important convictions from the Reformation (such as the five Solas) and why we must hold fast to these convictions today.

Youth- Middle School
Teacher: Mr. K. Crowe Age: Middle School   Room: 1st Floor, Hull Street Building
Subject: "Doctrine of Scripture"
One of the most important things that we must be clear on as Christians is what we believe about the Bible. This winter we will study what the Bible says about itself that our students might have a clearer understanding of why we build our lives upon the Word of God. It is our desire that as we come to a greater awareness of what we believe about the Bible that our students will be like Timothy of whom the Apostle Paul said, “from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings.”
